Mike Walker

For over six years I have worked on a range of ocean conservation related campaigns with The Pew Charitable Trusts: ending EU overfishing; on large scale fully-protected marine reserves; illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; shark conservation; and with the Pew Marine Fellows programme. I was a member of the core team of Pew’s campaign to support fundamental reform of the EU’s fisheries management, the Common Fisheries Policy. I designed a campaign strategy with three distinct phases while maintaining the flexibility to evaluate, adapt and respond to external events – including extending the campaign and its momentum in line with the political process by two years. I have really enjoyed grassroots outreach as well and mobilising social media to leverage considerable political pressure.
